Community Conversations is a 10-week course and a method of engaging members of a community to produce a piece of participatory action research on a subject or issue that affects them. People are given training and work together on producing this research. After completing the course participants will have produced a report, infographic or video summary of findings and recommendations. Examples of work undertaken include feedback on antenatal services, supporting children’s centres in co-production of work and engaging the community in activities and events.
Our work with local communities has led us to co-produce different strands of Community Conversations. Through our work with young people, parents, families and the elderly we have developed the following:
Chit Chat Change – A group gathering to discuss making a difference
Chit Chat Chai – Discuss an issue or subject over chai and Asian snacks
Speedy Life Stories – Ask the elderly about their experiences and views
Walk and Talk – A local walk or ramble in the countryside to encourage discussion and connect people
We have worked with a variety of communities and co-produced work on maternity services, housing associations, local mosques, health and well-being and inter-generational connections. We are committed to grass roots work and engage and support local people to develop and contribute to their communities.
